Ministerial Order M 297 deposited as B.C. Reg. 209/2016 (attached to this information bulletin) will come into force effective November 1, 2016. The sections and Schedule to the Gas Safety Regulation that will be amended effective November 1, 2016 are set out in the tables below. The amendments include repeals, substitutions, additions, strikeouts, renumbering and the adoption of new editions of codes.

Work performed under permits taken out from November 1, 2016 onward will require compliance with the new editions of codes adopted under M 297 Appendix 1. Effective the date of this information bulletin, work performed under permits taken out prior to November 1, 2016 may be assessed to either the previous or new edition of the applicable code(s).

The Ministerial Order also adopts, in Appendix 2 of the order, two codes (i.e., CSA B149.2 Propane Storage and Handling Code and CSA Z662 Oil and Gas Pipeline Systems) that will come into force effective November 1, 2017. Details concerning the adoption and implementation of Appendix 2 codes will be forthcoming in future BC Safety Authority documents.

An individual must not transfer liquefied petroleum gas from one container to another unless the individual has successfully completed a training course that has been approved by a provincial safety manager and holds a certificate issued following that training course.

In addition, the gas appliance shall be sealed from the bathroom using material that is impact resistant and thermal shock proof. Clearance to the tub must be maintained to prevent accidental injury from the hot surface of the appliance.
