Technical Safety BC is reminding contractors that, as per section 12 of the Safety Standards General Regulation (SSGR), an installation permit reflecting the known scope and value of work must be obtained prior to performing regulated work.

If the scope or value of work changes over the course of the project, a permit amendment must be submitted in a timely manner.

A permit for the final value and scope of work must be in place prior to a request for final inspection.

Undervalued work is considered to be work without a permit and may be subject to enforcement action.

How to Amend a Permit

  1. Contact Technical Safety BC at 1 866 566 7233.
  2. Provide the following information:
    • the original permit number;
    • the amended value of the work; and
    • details on the change in the scope of work.
  3. Pay the fee(s) as per the applicable technology fee schedule.

Investigation of Undervalued Work Fee

Technical Safety BC undertakes administrative and investigative activities when it is found that regulated work has been performed under a permit that does not reflect the correct value or scope of work.

The “Investigation of Undervalued Work” fee has been implemented to recover the costs of the discovery, investigation and correction of an undervalued permit that has not been amended prior to final inspection. Refer to Information Bulletin IB-CE-2018-02 for more information.

For additional information on terms and legislation, please refer to the applicable Acts, Regulations and our Glossary.
