A permit is a form of permission that allows a person to perform regulated work, or operate regulated equipment as authorized by the applicable regulations in their field of expertise. A permit is normally associated with a specific person and site.
There are two types of gas permits: installation and operating. Each section contains the steps to get your permit. If you have an installation or operating permit and the scope of the work on that site has since changed, get the permit amended at your nearest Technical Safety BC office. If you are a homeowner planning to do regulated gas work yourself, you also require a permit, but the process is different. Learn more here.
If you do not obtain a permit when required by law to do so, you may face consequences that range from a warning to a monetary penalty or prosecution.
Municipalities not covered by Technical Safety BC for gas permits
Please note, there are some exceptions where Technical Safety BC does not issue gas installation permits or complete inspections. Please see jurisdiction information for details.
