Improving Compliance by Large Asset Owners

According to a recent report by School of Public Policy graduate students from Simon Fraser University, as many as 15% of large asset owners regulated by Technical Safety BC do not have an operating permit. The owners of these assets – which include commercial properties, plants, factories, mills, multi-story buildings, schools, hospitals and municipal facilities – typically use high voltage electrical services, which can put their employees and the public at significant risk.

The report outlines some recommendations to increase compliance by large asset owners. These include enhancing data collection processes; increasing monitoring and enforcement capacity; and introducing incentive programs to encourage compliance.
