Power Engineer certificate documents to be enhanced

In Fall 2017, Technical Safety BC started accepting certificate renewals as required by recent changes to the Power Engineers, Boiler, Pressure Vessel and Refrigeration Safety Regulation. This came in a short period after Technical Safety BC rebranded. In order to initiate the certificate renewal process during a time of significant change for our organization, we introduced two interim measures to allow us to fulfill program requirements. These include the following:

  1. The ability for certified individuals to download a PDF of their wall certificate through their online account.

  2. The issuance of a peel-off wallet card by mail to certified individuals.

We are aware of concerns from some clients regarding the quality of these documents and we want to assure everyone that these were intended as interim measures only to help us manage the transition and allow continuity for certified individuals. We will provide new security-enhanced wallet cards, and we will also issue professionally designed wall certificates printed on heavier paper stock in the first quarter of 2018. Certificate holders will continue to have the option to download a PDF certificate in case of the loss/damage of the issued wall certificate, or to provide to potential employers.

We acknowledge the substantial investment that certified individuals have put in their certification process and it is important that the proof of qualification reflect the time and effort put into obtaining it. It is also important that the documents have the appropriate security enhancements.

We thank everyone who provided feedback on these items to us and we appreciate your patience around the transitional process.
