To improve the safety of elevating devices across the province, BC’s Elevating Devices Safety Regulation has been amended to include the adoption of a new safety code for elevators and escalators, CSA B44-16. The code comes into effect on April 30, 2020. To support the code adoption, we are offering 2016 B44 Elevating Code in-person courses.
Technical Safety BC has not yet made a determination on recommendations related to the content of the 2021 Canadian Electrical Code (CEC). Our goal is to provide a recommendation that considers multiple factors, including increased safety, cost implications to industry, owners, and the public, the enabling of innovation in the electrical sector, and public policy imperatives such as energy efficiency and climate change.

A new pressure welder program requires pressure welders in BC to be certified. In addition, a new pressure welder contractor licence class is now available.
The 2018 version of the Canadian Electrical Code came into effect in BC on January 1, 2020. The new code includes several changes to continue supporting electrical workers in the safe installation and maintenance of electrical systems and equipment.
