Power Engineering Consultation: Foreign Qualification Recognition, Certificate of Qualification Renewal, and Plant Registration

Status: Closed

Phase 1 of the power engineering consultation was to explore and address the issue of potential labour shortages and international labour mobility within the power engineering profession. This consultation phase was conducted from November 2015 through March 2016 as a joint venture between BC Safety Authority (BCSA), the Office of Housing and Construction Standards of the Province of BC’s Ministry of Natural Gas Development and Ministry Responsible for Housing (OHCS), and the Province of BC’s Ministry of Jobs, Tourism, and Skills Training (JTST).

In Phase 2 of this consultation, BC Safety Authority consulted on changes that would impact the boilers, pressure vessels and refrigeration industries:

  • developing a consistent, formalized method of recognizing international qualifications for power engineers looking to work in BC;
  • renewal of certificates of qualification; and
  • introducing plant registrations.

This consultation was open from June 29, 2016 to August 13, 2016.
