Incident overview

A kitchen fire occurred after a deep fryer’s fuel supply was separated while moving the appliance for cleaning. The uncontrolled release of gas found an ignition source, starting a fire from the open gas line. Damage to wall coverings and equipment was caused by the ineffective use of the appliance’s restraining device which allowed the appliance to move a distance that strained and broke the gas shutoff valve.
