Incident overview

While charging a Tesla at a residential home, the homeowner smelled burning rubber in the detached garage. The owner found a receptacle, which was used for EV (Electric Vehicle) charging, that had failed due to excessive heat. Arcing and heat damage occurred, and the receptacle was burnt beyond repair. The EV charging receptacle was installed incorrectly by an electrical contractor without the required installation permit.
