Incident Overview
Three individuals working at a sawmill were taken to hospital for possible carbon monoxide poisoning after a gas-fired dry kiln produced a high concentration of carbon monoxide. Drying lumber in the kiln produced steam and without sufficient ventilation, dangerous levels of carbon monoxide were created and entered occupied spaces through unsealed openings. There were no O2 or CO sensors in the kiln or occupied workspaces to monitor for safe operation and personnel safety.
