Location: Summerland

Regulated industry sector: Gas - Natural gas system

Incident overview

An explosion occurred inside a gas fired textile dryer while in use at a commercial print shop. The explosion damaged the appliance and surrounding area inside the building. Exhaust systems in the building created a negative pressure environment that led to burner combustion issues. The dryer was installed by a licensed contractor in 2015, but no routine maintenance had been performed by qualified technicians on the gas system since. Two individuals experienced minor injuries from the explosion.
