Revision Number:

Rev 1

The information bulletin is being issued to all passenger ropeway contractors operating passenger ropeways where a fall hazard of 3 meters (10 feet) or more exists in British Columbia.

As a means of ensuring worker safety in accordance with WorkSafe BC and Occupational Health and Safety regulations, Technical Safety BC has developed a “Site Fall Protection Verification Declaration”. The purpose of the declaration is to verify that the required fall protection procedures, rescue equipment, and trained personnel are in place and on-site where physical assessments are performed. We now require that all passenger ropeways contractors operating ropeways where a fall hazard of 3 meters (10 feet) or more exists, to complete a site fall protection verification declaration form prior to a physical inspection taking place. One declaration is required for each site (ski area) operating passenger ropeways annually. A declaration form in fillable .PDF format is provided here:

Declaration forms shall be submitted to Technical Safety BC. For the fall of 2018 please submit declaration forms prior to confirming physical assessment dates with the safety officer. After 2018, use the submission guidelines below.

  1. For passenger ropeways that operate in the winter only, the declaration must be submitted before the ropeway operates for the winter season.
  2. For passenger ropeways that operate for the summer only, the declaration must be submitted before the start of the summer season.
  3. For passenger ropeways that operate for the winter and summer seasons, the declaration shall be submitted before the start of the winter season.
  4. For passenger ropeways that operate year round, the declaration shall be submitted at the end of your annual maintenance shut down period.

Declaration forms shall be submitted to: passengerropeways@technicalsafetybc.ca

The requirements of this information bulletin go into effect as of October 15, 2018.

Any questions relating to these declarations can be sent to: passengerropeways@technicalsafetybc.ca
