Indigenous Reconciliation and Partnerships
Indigenous Reconciliation & Partnerships
We value reconciliation with Indigenous Peoples and recognize and support Indigenous Peoples’ inherent rights to self-government and self-determination. As a province-wide regulator, we are committed to understanding the unique needs, wants, and priorities of Indigenous people, communities, and Nations. We continue to work towards a province where all Indigenous Peoples experience equitable access to safe technical systems.
Our Team
The Indigenous Reconciliation and Partnerships Team at Technical Safety BC works to guide the organization’s participation in reconciliation by centering Indigenous perspectives to drive meaningful organizational change, in alignment with the Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples Act and the Truth and Reconciliation Commission of Canada’s Calls to Action. Through internal training and education, decolonization of our policies and practices, and partnership with Indigenous organizations and communities, we seek to build a culture and safety system that meet the needs of Indigenous Peoples across British Columbia.
Our Approach
Our vision is to center Indigenous perspectives to support safe technical systems in all Indigenous communities, supported by an organization that practices meaningful reconciliation every day.
We seek to create change through action under three pillars of impact:
Allyship – We strive to be a trusted ally to Indigenous people, organizations, and Nations, and we will continue to do the work to decolonize our policies, processes, and mindsets.
Cultural Safety – We work towards creating a workplace that is a safe and inclusive space for Indigenous employees to join and thrive, with an employee base that is representative of the populations we serve.
Safety Equity – We support optimal safety of technical systems on Indigenous land, in alignment with the demonstrated needs, wants, and priorities of Indigenous Nations, while respecting Indigenous sovereignty and self-determination.
Let’s Connect
We understand that achieving safety equity requires an approach that recognizes the distinctiveness of Indigenous Nations and communities and responds to their unique needs, contexts, and priorities. We are working to develop relationships and partnerships that will help us continue to build a safety system that meets the needs of Indigenous Peoples in BC. If you are a representative of an Indigenous Nation that is interested in sharing your experiences with us, please contact engage@technicalsafetybc.ca.
