Building Trust Through Licensing and Certification

We issue licences to contractor businesses and company owners or operators who install, operate, and maintain regulated equipment. We also issue certificates of qualification to individuals who work on regulated equipment.

Together, licences and certifications assure the public that regulated work is carried out in accordance with established safety requirements and administrative standards, and that workers possess the necessary knowledge and skills to meet the standards outlined in the Safety Standards Act and associated regulations.

Upgrades to Find a Licensed Contractor Search Tool

In 2025, we made improvements to our Find a Licensed Contractor in BC lookup tool. The improved search functionality enables users to find the contractor they’re looking for without requiring their exact business name or licence number. There is also a tutorial to help new users navigate the tool.

Importantly, the number of outstanding non-compliances that remain unresolved after 180 days for Electrical, Gas, and BPVR licensed contractors is now publicly posted on our website and can be found when searching for contractors in the tool. Another new addition is we now publish the licence status for clients with expired and suspended licences. This increased transparency and enables British Columbians to make more informed decisions when hiring a licensed contractor, and encourages licensed contractors to rectify outstanding non-compliances as soon as possible.

In 2025, 984 new licences were issued, representing an increase of about 8% compared to 2024. In 2025, 10,317 licences were renewed.

In 2025, 3,208 certificates were issued, similar to the number issued in 2024. 7,924 certificates were renewed.
