Gas Operating Permits
Gas operating permits are for gas stations and other facilities dispensing propane, natural gas or hydrogen. Operating permits are also required for owners of gas utilities, propane bulk plants, vehicle fuel system installers and other facilities. For more information on those facilities, please refer to section 28 of the Gas Safety Regulation.
Obtain an Operating Permit
To obtain an operating permit:
- Complete the Operating Permit Application Form 550
- Operating permits for class 4 and 5 - Vehicle conversion and Recreational vehicle, require a surety bond.
- Email the form to firstname.lastname@example.org. You can also submit the forms in person or mail, to any Technical Safety BC office.
- Pay the required fee as per the Gas Fee Schedule upon receiving invoice.
All clients are sent an invoice 45-days prior to the annual date of renewal. Invoices are sent by email/mail as per the choice indicated earlier.
You should receive an updated permit in the next few days, provided your payment has been received, contact details are up-to-date and documentation (example bonds for some permits) is in order.
To avoid interruptions, it’s best to renew your permit without any delay.
