Licensing and Certification

We issue licences to contractor businesses and owners or operators of companies who install, operate, and maintain regulated equipment. We issue certificates of qualification to individuals working on regulated equipment.

Together, licences and certifications provide the public with assurances that important safety and administrative standards of knowledge and proficiency are being maintained around regulated work.

Building on last year’s improvements on obtaining and renewing certificates of qualification, we upgraded our online services in 2024 for clients needing to obtain, renew, or manage their licence. Clients can now receive their licence up to six days faster when applying online and monitor the real-time status of their application. Additionally, licences can be renewed six months in advance of the expiry date without affecting the duration of the existing licence.

Licences and Certificates in 2024

New licences issued remain consistent with the previous year, with 914 licences issued in 2024, an increase of 1% compared to 2023. In 2024, 89% of all licences were renewed.

In 2024, 3,192 certificates were issued, a 4% increase from 2023. Renewal of certificates remained consistent.
