Elevating Devices

Designs of all new installations, alterations to existing devices, and cab modernization have to be registered. The designs have to meet the requirements of the CSA Code: CSA B44-07 Safety Code for Elevators and Escalators. For details on design registration, see here.

To apply

  1. Submit completed application forms as applicable.

  2. Submit designs, drawings, and specifications, stamped by a (P.Eng) professional, as applicable. A BC licensed engineer (P.Eng) has to confirm that designs meet the standards defined by the code. Engineers can use digital signature and electronic seal technology, approved by the Engineers & Geoscientists of BC to add an electronic seal to the application form.
     
  3. Email the above to eddesignsubmission@technicalsafetybc.caApplications can also be mailed or submitted in person to our corporate office in Vancouver.  For urgent service, please include ‘Rush’ in the subject line.
     
  4. You will receive a call for required payment. See fee schedules.
     
  5. Design registration review process can take up to 20 business days. Rush service is available. Unpaid application fees will delay the review process.

After the design is approved, an installation permit is issued with an identification plate that is to be installed on the equipment.

Inspection

Safety officers perform assessments of newly installed devices to assess the code compliance of the equipment.

New installations and existing devices that have undergone major alterations require an inspection. To arrange for an inspection, refer here.
