Refrigeration Safety Awareness
The Refrigeration Safety Awareness certificate allows you to be in attendance to monitor a general supervision or risk assessed status refrigeration plant with a total plant capacity of 1,000 kW or less prime mover nameplate rating.
You may not operate or perform any repairs to the refrigeration plant, but you may shut down the plant or initiate safety procedures when specifically trained and assigned to perform such tasks.
To obtain this certificate, you will need to meet certain eligibility requirements. You will also need to pass an evaluation and a certification exam.
General eligibility
In order to apply for your Refrigeration Safety Awareness certificate, you must:
- Successfully complete a basic refrigeration plant safety program or other approved technical course

You can apply for an evaluation by following these steps:
- Submit a completed application for evaluation, along with clear copies of any prerequisites. You can submit the completed application as a PDF via our contact form.
- Pay a fee.
Apply for an exam
To take this exam, you must:
- Complete and submit an application to take the exam.
- Pay a fee.
Technical Safety BC will contact you to book your exam once your application has been approved.
About this exam
This exam is 2.5 hours long, and you must achieve a minimum grade of 65% to pass.
