Vehicle Conversion (CNG)

Gas Certification

Overview

A Vehicle Conversion - Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) Certificate of Qualification allows you to maintain and repair compressed natural gas vehicle fuel systems under an operating permit.

This certificate does not allow you to work on CNG-related systems as part of a liquefied natural gas (LNG) equipped vehicle. An LNG training endorsement must be acquired for this purpose and attached to your Vehicle Conversion (CNG) certificate.

To obtain this certificate, you will need to meet certain eligibility requirements and pass an exam.

To apply for this exam, you must have:

  • Successfully completed a recognized course in CNG vehicle conversion

You must also have one of the following:

  • A 3-year automotive industry training credential or an equivalent 3-year automotive trade certificate
  • Documented evidence of a minimum 3 years automotive tune-up experience

Refer to Gas Safety Regulation for more information.

If you would also like to install or alter a compressed natural gas system in a vehicle, you will need specific manufacturer training and an endorsement from Technical Safety BC.

To have an endorsement attached to your certificate, you must provide a record of successful training completion. Send this record to us via email, and we will attach an endorsement to your certificate. In some cases, multiple endorsements may be required to perform certain work.
