Class LO FSR


A Class LO (low energy) FSR certificate of qualification entitles the holder to act as a Field Safety Representative (FSR), and perform regulated electrical work on electrical equipment that includes all wiring and equipment installed that is restricted to circuits that have the power supply limited in accordance with the requirements for Class 2 circuits, maximum 100 volt amperes. Despite the above, a dedicated branch circuit from an existing panel board or extension of an existing branch circuit wiring, rated at 15 ampere, 120 volt, to an outlet installed specifically for a Class 2 power supply shall also be acceptable.

Scope of work NOT included under this certificate:

  1. Electrical work on Fire Alarm Systems
  2. Electrical work on Security Alarm Systems
  3. Electrical work in Hazardous Locations

To Book an Exam

  1. Complete the following application form online.
  2. Upload:
    -  appropriate documentation when prompted.
    -  scanned original copies of prerequisite documentation. Notarized copies will also be accepted.
  3. Make payment when you receive a call from a client service representative.
    Note: Only applicants who have submitted complete documentation and have passed the review are eligible for the exam. Candidates found ineligible will receive a letter notifying them of any missing requirements from Technical Safety BC.
  4. Exam request dates can be made during fee payment. Based on availability, exam dates can be scheduled 15-business days from the time of payment.
  5. Successful candidates will receive exam confirmation letter by mail or email, as per preference. If you have not received your confirmation letter a week prior to your tentatively scheduled date, please contact Technical Safety BC at 1 866 566 7233.

Exam Information

The 2-hour exam is open book with multiple choice questions. Applicants must achieve a minimum grade of 70%.

Certification Renewal

All electrical field safety representative (FSR) certificates must be renewed every three years.

  1. Minimum one year (1,800 hours) acceptable, relevant electrical work experience. Provide either a resume or employer letter documenting job classifications, duties, scope and type of work performed.
  2. Proof of completion from a recognized instructor of a recognized electrical course in the application of electrical codes and standards completed within three years of application date.


  • Provide either a resume or employer letter documenting job classifications, duties, scope and type of work performed. 
  • Where Field Safety Representative (FSR) can verify experience, provide letters from employers signed by the FSR named on the contractor’s license showing FSR registration number, class, and original signatures. 
  • Where experience cannot be verified by a current Class LO FSR, a notarized statutory declaration, outlining relevant work experience is required. Provide documents with original signatures.
